Site Planning & Strategy
Autism Resources Web Portal

This portal is designed to serve as the primary point of entry for accessing resources and treatment information for families and individuals with Autism in Washington state. This preliminary content strategy and site architecture was created in partnership with University of Washington, Seattle Children's Autism Center, and UW Autism Center.

My role: Product Manager and Content/Design Development

The Challenge

How might we create an online treatment and community resource hub for individuals and families impacted by autism?
Living with autism can be challenging. For many parents with autistic children, the process of getting a diagnosis and securing treatment is both daunting and exhausting. In the Seattle area, there is currently no centralized source of information, which adds stress to an already stressful situation. This project provides the content strategy and preliminary designs for a centralized web portal about autism resources in Washington.
Picture
The project began with thorough user research interviews with parents of children with ASD, autistic adults, and local medical experts. We wanted every stakeholder to have input on this initiative.

Key Insights from User Research

  • There are lots of resources for Autistic individuals and families but not much guidance for learning about treatment processes and community resources
  • Need for a roadmap that is easy to understand, in languages other than English
  • People feel relieved when they are a part of a community. A safe and central place to discuss life with autism would be welcome.
  • It’s important to support any individual who is impacted by autism (siblings, parents, etc)
  • A desire to increase understanding of autism through advocacy and education
  • Self-advocacy is important to autistic individuals
Empathy Map
This empathy map explores the viewpoint of a parent with a child who has just been evaluated for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Additionally, there are notes with plans for research tactics and potential features to include in the web portal.
